In the 90s, as part of the conversion, many military developments acquired versions adapted for peaceful purposes. The car was developed in Arzamas by adapting the BTR-80 for civilian purposes. The body of a civil all-terrain vehicle, like a military brother, was manufactured at a factory in Vyksa. The car was named GAZ-59037A.
